Monday, October 1st was Silas' first birthday at home and he turned 2! I can NOT believe that my baby boy is two. And, this month last year we met Mr. Silas for the first time in Ethiopia. Crazy!
We celebrated his birthday over the weekend. Saturday was free museum day so we decided to take the kids to the Louisville Science Center. I had not been since I was a kid on a field trip and neither had Derek. We really had a lot of fun. There was a toddler room and a play room. Besides that there wasn't very much Silas and Lucy could actually do but they love feeling independent and getting to walk around in new places. The freedom of exploration is exciting in itself.
Silas gets very attached to things quickly. So he would find a new toy at each station and then would get so upset when it was time to put it up and move on to the next spot. We are trying to hard to make this easier for him and the more he is able to understand the easier it gets to explain to him that we have to move on to something else new and fun. He LOVED playing with this set of tracks that you roll a ball on. The track had hills and loops and he would get so excited everytime he let go of that little ball and watched it make its way through the twists and turns. So fun!

Then on Sunday we went to church and then home for lunch. We took a little trip to Trader Joe's and stopped to pick up some cupcakes on the way home. After having TJ's Mandarin chicken and eggrolls (which Lucy and Silas both loved) we gave them each their first very own cupcake to celebrate Silas' birthday. I made myself promise not to worry about the mess. :)

Silas was a little unsure of the cupcake at first. Lucy dug straight in. But after helping Silas taste the icing from my finger first he quickly decided he liked it.
It was fun watching them devour these cupcakes. We headed straight for the bathtub afterwards.
Monday was Silas' actual birthday and it was raining. We didn't do a whole lot but I got them pizza for lunch at Target and he watched his new Yo Gabba Gabba dvd which he always loves. We are having a joint birthday party in Paintsville at the end of the month with cupcakes and pizza and all their family! So blessed that God rescued our sweet Silas and allowed him to be OUR SON! We are so happy to celebrate his life.
